Two members, at two different levels; Long Run Destination – Global Ecosphere Retreats® (GER) certified – Wolwedans Collection and Long Run Supporter, Wilderness Safaris, have been announced as finalists for the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards! The Tourism for Tomorrow Awards is one of the world's highest accolades in the Travel & Tourism industry, aimed at recognising best practice in sustainable tourism within the industry worldwide.

Sukutan Spring
When you hear the words Sukutan Spring, your mind may fly to the recent spate of political ‘springs’ that have been the subject of much media attention in the recent past, or conjure up images of budding flowers and trees. But the Sukutan Spring is an actual natural spring that for centuries has been the source of water for the people of Sukutan – a small community in Laikipia District in Kenya, which shares a border with Segera ranch. Sadly, a dark cloud looms over this spring that has for so long supported the lives of the hundreds of people in Sukutan, their cattle and the wildlife in the area - that of climate change.

The Long Run Initiative Grows in Leaps and Bounds
The Long Run Initiative, the Zeitz Foundation’s flagship programme, has been abuzz with activity recently, with five new Long Run Alliance Members and six new Long Run Supporters being welcomed into the initiative, and three of the existing Long Run Destinations completing the rigorous GER® certification process to become fully fledged Long Run Destinations - Global Ecosphere Retreats® (GER) certified. Those Long Run Destinations which have been newly certified include Caiman Ecological Reserve in Brazil, Lapa Rios Ecolodge in Costa Rica and Wolwedans in Namibia. GER® certification is setting a new standard in sustainability and is a driving force in promoting and developing sustainable thinking around the globe. It ensures that best practices are adhered to and innovative approaches experimented with and researched to develop sustainable solutions at LRDs.

Tenuta di Spannocchia - Salvaging a way of life from times gone by
Tenuta di Spannocchia is nestled in the Tuscan hills. A windy road leads through the forest and back in time before opening up onto a group of century-old stone buildings. Randall and his wife Francesca live in one of the stone houses next to the main tower, all of which exhude the history and serenity of the Tenuta. Wilderness' 4Cs Revolution Bears Fruit
Wilderness Holdings is the first Long Run Supporter from the tourism industry and from Africa to join The Long Run Initiative, the flagship initiative of the Zeitz Foundation. From the start, Wilderness whole-heartedly bought into the Long Run Philosophy – acting today for a better tomorrow - and in particular transformed its entire business approach to be in line with the 4Cs – conservation, community, culture and commerce. The 4Cs is the Zeitz Foundation’s holistic approach to sustainability which is based on the concept that no organisation can truly be sustainable until it strikes a balance between these four elements. This 4Cs revolution has earned Wilderness the Best Sustainability Report by a Newcomer award at the recently concluded ACCA South Africa Awards for Sustainability Reporting held in Johannesburg.
