When the photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand met the producers Denis Carot, Luc Besson and François-Henri Pinault, they imagined a film documentary project about environmental issues. The result is a magnificent experience consisting of aerial images made famous by Arthus-Bertrand’s bird’s eye perspective.
The film, which was filmed across fifty countries and shot entirely from the sky in high definition, offers a powerful commentary on the major environmental and social issues challenging our world.
The worldwide release of the movie occurred on June 5th, 2009—World Environment Day—in cinemas, on television, on DVD, and on the Internet. It was the FIRST movie to be released simultaneously across all media and all continents. The objective of the simultaneous worldwide release is to provide as many people as possible the opportunity to watch this profound documentary as a global collective. Profits from the film were donated to the Organisation www.goodplanet.org.
Jochen Zeitz, Chairman and Founder of the Zeitz Foundation (the force behind The Long Run) said, “Creating awareness of our environment's emergency state is crucial and the first step for an improved handling of our natural resources. The HOME film inspires us to work towards making a positive contribution to our planet. I hope that it continues to inspire audiences everywhere. We are proud to be a supporter of HOME”
As part of The Long Run’s educational outreach, PPR and filmmaker Yann-Arthus Bertrand have awarded the Zeitz Foundation special usage and distribution rights to a unique and provocative Teaching Tool to enhance understanding of the film and the implications of climate change. As part of the film’s educational and activism outreach program, the pack is an educational learning and teacher training toolkit available for download to be used in conjunction with the film viewing.
