<p><strong>Long Run Programme Manager – Zeitz Foundation</strong></p> <p><strong>Job Description</strong></p> <p><strong>Post</strong>: Long Run Programme Manager, Zeitz Foundation<br /><strong>Location</strong>: Europe (TBC)<br /><strong>Reporting to</strong>: Zeitz Foundation Director<br /><strong>Commencing</strong>: First quarter of 2011</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Background and Introduction</strong>:<br />The mission of the Zeitz Foundation is to create and support sustainable, ecologically and socially responsible projects and destinations around the world to achieve long-lasting impact and sustainability, with the goal of maintaining and improving the integrity of ecosystems through effective, sustainable management practices, which enhance the ability of ecosystems to deliver services for the benefit of mankind. To achieve this vision and goal the Foundation promotes an innovative approach to sustainable ecosystem management which aims to achieve sustainability through a balance of conservation, community, culture and commerce (the 4Cs).</p> <p>The principal programme through which Zeitz Foundation aims to achieve this is through the Long Run programme. This programme encompasses the Long Run Philosophy, Alliance and Destinations. The role of the LR Programme Manager is to develop and manage this programme in line with the Zeitz Foundation goals and objectives and its five year Strategic Plan. The short-term goal over the next two years is to demonstrate that the ‘4Cs’ (The Long Run) approach is an effective and viable way to promote sustainable ecosystems management.</p> <p><br />The focus during this period will be on developing and strengthening the Long Run Destinations (LRD) to serve as models for this approach. The long-term goal for the next five years is to mainstream the 4Cs approach, thereby contributing to improved ecosystems management globally.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Roles and Responsibilities</strong>:<br />The LR programme manager will be responsible for:<br />- Providing guidance and strategic inputs into the conceptual development of the Long Run programme in line with cutting edge thinking on sustainability, leading to continuous refinement of the 4C approach as an analytical framework for programme interventions;<br />- Ongoing and regular communication with existing Long Run Destinations to engage them with Zeitz Foundation LRD activities and to receive information about plans and ongoing activities in the individual LRDs;<br />- Identifying potential new Long Run Destinations (LRD) and follow through to ensure that (approx) 5 new destinations per year join as LRD members.<br />- Coordinating hiring and activities of consultants in development and refinement ofrequired materials for the LRD certification system and ensuring that thecertification process is implemented and assessments undertaken in Global Ecosphere Retreats-certified LRDs.<br />- Liaising with other certifying/ standard-setting organizations in sustainable development/tourism to ensure the LRD certification system is aligned with international best practice<br />- Systematically monitor, evaluate and enhance programme progress, effectivenessand impact, including the documentation of emerging best practice within the LRDs and coordinating with other Zeitz Foundation Departments in effectively communicating these.<br />- In line with the Zeitz Foundations strategic plan, developing and operationalising the LR programme focal areas and strategies:<br />- In collaboration with other Zeitz Foundation departments and management of the individual Long Run Destinations, coordinating the development of Payment for Ecosystems Services (PES) projects in a minimum of 3 LRDs, including;<br /> working with existing and new LRDs to identify potential PES projects;<br /> identifying and coordinating appropriate teams to undertake development and elaboration of PES concepts into proposals;<br /> managing drafting of proposals;<br /> developing monitoring and evaluation systems and processes for PES projects:<br /> And ensuring that best practices and lessons learnt are effectively communicated throughout the LRD network.<br />- Developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships and networks to support Zeitz Foundation and Long Run mission and goals.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Requirements</strong>:<br />o A degree or preferably higher qualification in environmental management, sustainable tourism or related field.<br />o A proven track record in the management of complex inter-disciplinary environmental or development projects with a minimum of five years experience.<br />o Practical knowledge of and experience in the areas of sustainable tourism and/or payment for ecosystems services.<br />o Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and team building skills with a strong commitment to engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.<br />o Excellent and proven communication skills - written and verbal<br />o Proven ability to work cross-culturally and establish strong relationships multi-cultural environments and ability to travel.</p> <p> </p> <p>Salary with be competitive within the NGO sector and commensurate with qualifications and experience.</p> <p><br />For further information on the Zeitz Foundation and Long Run Destinations and Long Run Programme visit our websites at <a href="http://www.zeitzfoundation.com" target="_blank">www.zeitzfoundation.com</a> and www.thelongrun.com.</p> <p><br />Interested applicants should submit a CV and application letter to Gathoni Mwai at the Zeitz Foundation on gathoni@zeitzfoundation.org before January 15th 2011.</p>The Zeitz Foundation is currently looking for a Long Run Programme Manager to join its team.
