Long Run Destination Monte Azul's artist Alvaro Gomez opens his acclaimed 'The Garden's Threshold' exhibition in San Jose's national gallery.
The seventeen pieces on display are inspired by the rain and its effect on nature, and are the result of the artist's stay in Monte Azul Long Run Destination. As part of Monte Azul's 'artist in residency' programme, Gomez spent a year immersed in the rainforest - an experience that influenced his work.
"I believe being a gardener is the best work in the world and thus, in an effort to emulate this diligent work, I have turned to painting as a unique opportunity to become a gardener. I wanted to create probable gardens, in picture, that could only exist therein, on the canvas, on paper, with brush strokes on the petals as a pretext for color, or an event, or even a gesture," he explaines.
'The Garden's Threshold' exhibition runs until the 30th of August 2010 at the Galeria Nacional, a not-for-profit entity that supports needy families in the urban sections of San José and is housed in the Museo del Niño but functions independently.
